Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect during my eye exam?

You can expect more than just a vision check. Our optometrists use advanced diagnostic technology to thoroughly evaluate your vision, eye alignment, and eye health. Our exams include screenings for conditions like glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, dry eye, and diabetic eye disease.

We’ll also talk with you about your lifestyle, including screen time habits, and offer personalized strategies to reduce eye strain and keep your vision comfortable throughout the day. You’ll leave with a clear understanding of your eye health and a plan that’s built around your needs.

How often do I need an eye exam?

It depends on your age, vision needs, and risk factors. Here’s a general guide:

  • Ages 18–39: For this age range, an eye exam every two years is usually sufficient if your eyes are healthy and you have no significant risk factors. If you wear glasses or contact lenses, have a family history of eye disease, or have diabetes or another health condition, we will recommend annual exams.
  • Ages 40–64: Every two years is still appropriate for low-risk patients, while those with corrective lenses or other risk factors should plan on coming in annually. This is also the age range when we start seeing more cases of glaucoma and macular degeneration, which is another good reason not to let too much time pass between visits.
  • Ages 65 and older: For patients 65 and older, we recommend an annual eye exam across the board. Even if your vision seems fine, a lot can change in a year, and more frequent visits may be advised depending on your eye health history.

When in doubt, it’s always better to check in sooner. Many serious eye conditions develop gradually with no obvious symptoms until significant damage has already occurred. Regular exams are one of the best things you can do for your long-term vision health.
